GENERAL:
Full day workshops are held on most Saturdays, and Sundays, during: Feb, March, April, May, June, July, August, Sept, Oct, & Nov. Workshops are not usually held on holiday weekends. Dec. & Jan. are our "off season".
We try to have four, 2 hour sessions, the customary schedule is:
Additional midweek, evening, workshops are held during the week, They usually start at 7:00 PM.
Most indoor Manhattan workshops will be at Stan's Studio, on West 30th Street, in Manhattan, unless otherwise indicated. Some will be at Stan's Second on 39th Street.
During June, July, August, & Sept. we hold outdoor location workshops and substantially different rules & conditions apply. The models' daily earnings are substantially lower, although the hourly rate is only slightly lower. This is caused by the extensive travel times to suitable locations. Transportation is usually provided.
PAYMENT:
For Manhattan workshops, models keep 50% of the workshop gross, they give me 50% of the gross to cover, rent, expenses & my fee. Models keep all of the model release and tip money, which might equal 50% of their workshop gross, more or less. Models receive cash at the end of the workshop. Most experienced models, doing four full sessions of solo modeling, have gone home with between $600 & $700, this is an average. Exceptional models have earned over $800 and on rare occasions over $1,000. Beginners earned less, $300 - $600. NOTE: there has been a recent softening of demand, most probably due to the downturn of the national economy, but possibly due to increased competition as well. My "guesstimate" for future earnings is: experienced models, $450 - $600; exceptional models over $600; beginners, $200 - $400, for full day, four session, workshops.
See "Historic Earnings" section here. [HISTORIC NOTE: I changed the split, on Nov. 20, 2007; if you signed up at the old rate (60%-40%) you will receive the old rate.
.
(For workshops in other locations, models keep 50% of the workshop gross, they give me 50% of the gross to cover, rent, expenses & my fee. Models keep all of the model release and tip money, which might equal 50% of their workshop gross, more or less. Prices, photographer participation, & model income are usually lower outside of Manhattan. Models receive cash at the end of the workshop.
MODELING STYLE & MODELING LIMITS
All workshops require total and complete nudity. If you are not comfortable with your body, this is not for you. Although the basic photography style is "Fine Art Figure," there is much room for considerable variation. Each model is expected to determine, and announce, her or his modeling style and posing limits in advance of the workshop. Unless otherwise stated, models are expected to model and pose in the style, and to the limits, of the images in their linked or referenced web sites, modeling pages, and on line images.
MODEL RELEASES:
Optional model releases are sold to the photographers, at their request, as an extra. The model releases usually provide a significant portion of the models' earnings. Models are obligated to sign the provided releases for the advertised price (usually $15.00). The price of the releases is set in advance of the workshops. On rare occasion, model releases may be included in the price of the workshop. Please see a copy of the standard model release here. We will modify the release, at the model's request, to require that only the model's modeling name be published or used, If you are not comfortable signing model releases this is not for you. Models are cautioned to think twice before signing other than the standard release, you are only expected to sign the standard release. We advise AGAINST signing other than our standard release.
CALENDAR:
Please see our calendar, for a constantly changing list of assigned and open dates. (You may need to join the group to access the calendar, membership is free for models.)
BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP:
As workshop coordinator, I function as your
contractor. My job is to: facilitate your finding & renting studio space, collect and process payment, pay the
studio, advertise the event on your behalf, and provide business guidance based on my past experience as a
workshop coordinator. I, or a proxy, will also be at the event to keep it running smoothly. I often use others to help me
carry out these tasks. In some cases I may provide my own studio as workshop space.
COMPUTING LENGTH OF WORKSHOPS.
At some time, hopefully at, or shortly after the published start time of the workshop, the model will proceed
to a location designated by the coordinator, remove his or her clothing, robe, or other covering, assume a
pose & yell either: "STARTING," "POSING," "WORKING," or "MODELING." That will be the beginning
of the session. If there is a timer available, it will be started. Models typically find it necessary to: fix makeup, hydrate, stretch, or rest, if performing vigorous activities. Such breaks will typically consume ten or fifteen minutes out of the hour and are part of the workshop time. Toward the end of the workshop the coordinator or model should announce "FIVE MINUTES", and then "ONE MINUTE". At the end of the allotted time the model should say "THANK YOU," and walk away from the posing area or darn clothing. It is up to the model to stop, otherwise the photographers will keep on shooting until they fill their memory cards, drain their batteries, or die.
TELEPHONE CALLS.
In all cases, the use of phones during a session will be considered a breach of etiquette. If a model feels the need to telephone or message, the timer will be stopped, until the model is back to modeling. Telephone time is NOT part of workshop time. In short, phones should be turned off (or silenced) during workshops.
NOT A PARTY:
We are here to make pictures. This is NOT a party. There will be absolutely NO alcohol, smoking, or recreational drugs, on the location. Models are expected to show up well rested, totally sober, and free of the influence of any drugs or other substances. Drinking or using drugs between sessions is not acceptable. Guests are not welcome; however, models may bring one acceptable, pre approved, chaperone Detailed information for chaperones is : here.
AGE & PROOF OF AGE:
All models must be at least 18 years old at the time of the workshop. Models must have government issued photo I.D. showing date of birth. The usual I.D's are: Drivers License, Learners Permit, Non-Drivers Identification, Passport, Military I.D.
